Wike Challenges Amaechi: "What Legacy Did You Leave After 24 Years in Power?"

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has issued a bold challenge to former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, demanding he showcase the projects and political empowerment he supposedly brought to Evo Kingdom during his 24-year tenure in public office.

During an interactive session with Evo Kingdom leaders in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Wike scrutinized Amaechi's record, questioning the tangible benefits of his extensive political experience as Speaker, Governor, and Minister of Transportation.

“Leadership should be measured by its impact on the people and the sustainable structures left behind,” Wike argued, criticizing past leaders for monopolizing power and failing to nurture successors. He emphasized that political officeholders should prioritize empowering their communities rather than hoarding opportunities for themselves.

Wike stated, “How can someone who spent 24 years in power without empowering his people now claim to love them?” He called for accountability, urging Amaechi's supporters to point out any significant contributions he made to the region.

Reflecting on his own political achievements, Wike expressed satisfaction with his record, asserting he has no desire to return to previous offices. “What do I want that God has not given to me? Nothing!” he declared, affirming his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and his commitment to fostering sustainable leadership.

He critiqued a political culture dependent on individual charisma, warning against a system where progress is tied solely to one leader. “When you die, everything crumbles. That is not how it should be,” he stated.

Wike also advised his supporters to temper their expectations of political alliances, stressing that only God is infallible. “Don’t ever believe that a human being will not disappoint you,” he cautioned, underscoring the importance of personal responsibility.

The meeting saw traditional and political leaders rallying behind Wike and the candidates endorsed by the Rainbow Coalition, with figures like Eze Temple Ejekwu expressing their support for Tinubu.

By challenging Amaechi’s legacy, Wike aims to ignite a conversation about accountability and the true measure of political leadership, setting the stage for the upcoming electoral battles.
