Three individuals have secured bail set at N500,000 each after facing charges for allegedly assaulting police officers and obstructing their duties.
The defendants—51-year-old Alaba Mulika, 21-year-old Alawode Iyanu, and 29-year-old Temitope Saliu—were arraigned at the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court following a swift investigation initiated by Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni.
The incident occurred on September 29, 2026, when a police team led by ASP Akeredolu Emmanuel intercepted an unregistered Toyota Camry on Fibigbade Street. As they were transporting the vehicle to the station, a Toyota Highlander (registration number JJJ 215 JV) allegedly blocked their path on Abobi Street.
What began as an obstruction quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Inspector Abolarinwa Wasiu and Corporal Olubamiro Adeniyi were reportedly assaulted. Video clips of the altercation circulated widely on social media, igniting public attention and prompting an official investigation.
Following their arrest, the trio faced a five-count charge including conspiracy, obstruction of police officers, serious assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
In court, the presiding magistrate granted each suspect bail at N500,000, requiring them to provide two sureties at the same amount. The sureties must demonstrate proof of tax payment and house ownership within the court’s jurisdiction, subject to verification.
CP Ojajuni reiterated the police command's commitment to ensuring the safety of officers executing their lawful duties. He urged the public to address grievances through legal means rather than resorting to violence.
The case is scheduled for further hearings on October 12, 2026, as the community watches closely for developments in this high-profile incident.
