The court, presided over by Justice Muhammad-Auwal Haruna, found the defendants guilty of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide related to the brutal attack on Rabi’u on September 18, 2025, in Garin Galadima village, Akko Local Government Area.
The prosecution presented compelling evidence that the defendants, armed with sticks and hoes, conspired to rob the deceased, stealing his mobile phone and N7,400 in cash. After inflicting severe injuries on Rabi’u, they callously disposed of his body in a maize farm.
State prosecutor Abdulkadir Ibrahim emphasized that the actions of the defendants contravened multiple sections of the Penal Code Law. During the trial, two witnesses testified against the accused, with the defense presenting one witness in response.
Justice Haruna meticulously reviewed the evidence, concluding that the prosecution had established its case beyond a reasonable doubt, particularly highlighting the testimony of the first prosecution witness.
“The court has gone through all the charges brought by the prosecution and the evidence presented,” Justice Haruna stated during the sentencing. He noted that the defendants failed to provide a credible defense against the serious charges.
Ultimately, the court found Buhari Sule and Muktari Ali Hilami guilty and sentenced them to death, declaring they should be “hanged by the neck until they are dead.”
This ruling serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of violent crime in Nigeria, as the legal system continues to grapple with issues of safety and justice in society.
