Dr. Alausa emphasized that the payment aligns with the President Bola Tinubu administration's commitment to improving the welfare of workers and fostering industrial harmony within Nigeria's tertiary education sector. He stated, “This release is a clear reflection of our dedication to supporting workers and ensuring a seamless educational experience under the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Highlighting the crucial role of non-academic staff in maintaining the functionality of tertiary institutions, Alausa called for recognition of their contributions to Nigeria’s educational landscape. “Both academic and non-academic staff are vital to the effective operation of our educational institutions, which are essential for Nigeria's human capital development,” he added.
This payment is part of broader efforts by the government to address workers' legitimate welfare concerns and mitigate disruptions in academic activities. It follows the earlier disbursement of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance for academic staff.
In his remarks, the Minister reassured stakeholders of the government’s ongoing discussions with unions and institutional leaders to resolve outstanding issues affecting the sector. “We will continue to engage with all partners to foster a stable and productive tertiary education system,” he affirmed.
Dr. Alausa also commended the patience and cooperation of workers, heads of institutions, and unions while reaffirming the government's commitment to fulfilling its obligations.
As part of its reform agenda, the administration aims to strengthen Nigeria’s education sector and improve conditions for all workers across tertiary institutions. The release of these allowances is a pivotal step in that direction, marking a significant commitment to enhancing the educational environment in Nigeria.
