Man Arrested for Impersonating Father in FCT Promotion Exam

In a bizarre turn of events, a 33-year-old man named Monsuru Musa was arrested for allegedly impersonating his father during a crucial promotion examination for staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday at the National Open University of Nigeria examination center in Abuja, where Monsuru was caught sitting for the exam on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the FCT Fire Service.

The promotion exercise, organized by the FCT Civil Service Commission, attracted heightened scrutiny, prompting security personnel to monitor the proceedings closely. Monsuru's actions were flagged following a directive from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike aimed at curbing examination malpractice.

Upon being apprehended, Monsuru confessed to the wrongdoing, revealing that his father, due to health issues, had asked him to take the exam. However, discrepancies soon emerged regarding Mohammed’s age—Monsuru claimed his father was between 67 and 68, while Mohammed stated he would turn 60 in February 2027.

During questioning, Mohammed confirmed that Monsuru was indeed his biological son and acknowledged that he had requested his help for the examination due to his health condition. The interrogators probed further, asking, “Because of your health, you asked him to come and take the exam for you?” to which Mohammed replied affirmatively.

In a twist of irony, Mohammed shared details of his educational background, claiming he completed primary school in 1977 and secondary school in 1982. He also mentioned that he began working in 2007 and was due to retire in February, although he seemed uncertain about his exact age.

Both father and son were subsequently taken into custody and handed over to the police after making statements to operatives of the Department of State Services. The incident raises concerns about integrity and accountability within the promotion process in government services.

As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen what consequences await the duo for their actions. This case serves as a reminder of the lengths some individuals may go to in pursuit of advancement, often at the cost of ethics and honesty.
