Ogun NNPP Candidate Withdraws Suit Against Yayi

Akinbola Rotham, the Ogun State governorship candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has announced his decision to withdraw a legal challenge regarding Senator Solomon Adeola's eligibility for the 2027 governorship race.

Rotham explained that his choice to retract Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/135/2026, which contested Adeola's claim to indigeneship in Ogun State, stems from a desire to prioritize the Ogun West agenda and the overall development of the state.

The controversy surrounding Adeola's claim of being from Pahayi, Ilaro, has stirred political debate. However, Rotham emphasized that the long-standing aspiration of Ogun West to produce a governor is more significant than any individual political ambitions.

“My decision was made in the best interest of the Ogun West agenda and the future of Ogun State,” Rotham stated during a press briefing in Abeokuta. He highlighted that unity among political aspirants is essential for the collective progress of the region.

Both candidates hail from Ogun West and are vying for the same position in the upcoming election. Rotham argued that governance should be based on competence and accountability rather than divisive issues like indigeneship.

“Developmental democracy should focus on character and the ability to deliver good governance, rather than on sentiments that divide us,” he added.

Reflecting on the situation, Rotham asserted that pursuing the case would not serve the interests of Ogun West or contribute positively to the state’s democratic development. He described Adeola as a brother and advocated for a constructive political contest.

Rotham’s withdrawal of the suit was not influenced by financial inducements or political settlements. “My decision was entirely based on principle and conviction,” he clarified.

He also acknowledged the leadership of the NNPP and the political connections Adeola has with President Bola Tinubu's administration, which he believes should not be clouded by unnecessary legal disputes.

Rotham extended a “hand of brotherhood, friendship, and constructive engagement” to Adeola, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among political parties for the greater good of Ogun State.

Despite withdrawing the suit, Rotham confirmed his commitment to the 2027 governorship race, stating, “This is not about one man; it’s about our people and collective destiny.”

As the political landscape in Ogun State continues to evolve, Rotham's decision highlights a growing emphasis on unity and cooperation among candidates, aiming to foster a more constructive political environment.
