Tragic Air Force Crash in Ondo: Governor Aiyedatiwa Mobilizes Rescue Efforts

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has expressed deep sympathy following the crash of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area. The incident occurred on Monday, October 5, during a routine mission from Benin to Lagos.

In response to the tragedy, Aiyedatiwa has mobilized the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Ministry of Health, and relevant security agencies to assist in ongoing search-and-rescue operations.

The Nigerian Air Force confirmed that the ATR-42 aircraft, identified by tail number NGR 931, went down in a swampy area near the Naval Base in Igbokoda. Preliminary reports indicate that 25 passengers and seven crew members were on board.

In a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, Aiyedatiwa conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Chief of Air Staff and the families of those affected. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time,” he stated.

The governor has maintained communication with the Nigerian Air Force leadership and local authorities to coordinate rescue efforts effectively.

He emphasized the importance of securing the crash site to facilitate unhindered operations.

Aiyedatiwa urged residents of Igbokoda and surrounding communities to remain calm and cooperate with emergency responders, advising against the spread of unverified information.

The Ondo State Government is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

As of now, the condition of those aboard the aircraft remains unconfirmed.

The governor reiterated his commitment to supporting rescue efforts and ensuring the safety of all involved. The community waits anxiously, hoping for positive news amid the unfolding tragedy.
