During the commissioning of a new diagnostic centre at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, Pate emphasized that these facilities represent the largest expansion of health infrastructure in Nigeria's history.
The initiative, executed through MedSafe and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), aims to enhance access to modern diagnostic services for Nigerians. "This marks a pivotal moment in our healthcare journey," Pate stated, highlighting the role of these centres in supporting training and research.
The foundation for the Bauchi facility was laid approximately two years ago, and it joins nine other centres already completed across the country. Following the Bauchi launch, another centre is set to open in Ibadan, Oyo State, with the remaining facilities already operational.
Pate underscored that this expansion aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration's commitment to revamping the health sector via improved diagnostic equipment and services.
In addition to the diagnostic centres, the government has also established three cancer centres as part of its comprehensive healthcare transformation program.
Pate praised the collaboration between the Federal and state governments, emphasizing that such partnerships are vital for expanding access to quality healthcare services.
Looking ahead, preparations are underway for the establishment of six major multi-specialty hospitals, one in each geopolitical zone of Nigeria, further enhancing healthcare accessibility.
The minister expressed gratitude to the Bauchi State Government for its support, reiterating the Federal Government's dedication to improving healthcare delivery and the overall wellbeing of Nigerians.
This ambitious healthcare initiative aims to provide a robust framework for modern medical services, ensuring that citizens can access quality healthcare close to home.
