Army Chief Champions Professionalism as New Units Launch in Oyo and Osun

In a decisive move, Maj. Gen. Auwalu Mahmuda, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, has called on troops at newly established bases in Oyo and Osun states to uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

During his inspection of the new Headquarters 7 Brigade in Oyo and the 137 Battalion in Ile-Ife, Mahmuda emphasized the critical importance of discipline and proactive engagement in their roles. His visit aimed to ensure a smooth operational kickoff for these units.

Lt. Col. Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, conveyed Mahmuda's firm stance against any unprofessional behavior, reinforcing the expectations set by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for exemplary conduct across all ranks.

The GOC also stressed the significance of building strong civil-military relations with local communities, vital for operational effectiveness. He noted that the formation of these new units is a strategic response to the pressing security challenges in the region.

Mahmuda expressed appreciation for ongoing initiatives designed to enhance troop welfare, aligning with the COAS's 'Soldiers First Concept.' He urged the troops to reciprocate this commitment by intensifying their efforts against criminal activities.

Upon arriving in Ile-Ife, Mahmuda was greeted by Lt.-Col. Christopher Okwujiako, Commanding Officer of the 137 Battalion. Community leaders, led by Sooko Adegboyega Ogunwusi, voiced their gratitude for the army's presence and the establishment of the battalion in their area.

This visit is part of Mahmuda's broader initiative to evaluate operational readiness and ensure troops effectively integrate into their new surroundings, prepared to fulfill their constitutional duties.

The Nigerian Army's proactive establishment of these formations underscores its commitment to addressing security concerns while upholding professionalism and fostering community engagement.
