Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has unveiled his plan for a one-term presidency if elected in 2027, emphasizing a commitment to transparency and national unity. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, the Oyo State governor challenged President Bola Tinubu to publicly disclose the Federal Government’s petroleum pricing template, asserting that Nigerians deserve clarity on fuel prices.
Makinde criticized the current administration for failing to deliver on key promises, including reliable electricity and effective alternative fuel policies. He argued that expertise in addressing Nigeria's challenges isn't exclusive to those in power, stating, “Just because you are in government does not mean you have all the solutions.”
Highlighting the need for a new approach, he pledged to establish a government that values public participation and inclusivity. "The 2027 election should mark a break from the culture of political deception," he said, promising honesty about the country’s challenges.
The governor reiterated his commitment to an all-inclusive administration that incorporates diverse interests from across Nigeria. “The government you will put in place from May 29, 2027, will be a transitional government of national unity,” he assured the audience.
Makinde's remarks come as the APM positions itself as a formidable opposition force, with National Leader and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed urging supporters to rally behind the party’s presidential ambitions. Mohammed emphasized that the APM is committed to fostering national unity and equal opportunities for all Nigerians.
Vice-presidential candidate Lawal Daura echoed these sentiments, calling for a fundamental reset in Nigeria’s governance. “We need a platform for patriotic citizens determined to change the country’s direction,” he stated.
As the APM prepares to finalize its policy proposals, Makinde explained that the party delayed releasing its manifesto to gather input from stakeholders, reflecting a commitment to inclusive governance.
With the 2027 elections approaching, Makinde's bold promises and challenges to the current administration signal a new chapter in Nigeria's political landscape.
