Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh reported that officers noticed a suspicious navy blue Volkswagen with tinted windows that appeared to be shaking. Upon investigation, they discovered Zayyanu Halilu assaulting the young victim inside the vehicle.
The suspect was immediately apprehended, and the girl was rescued. Preliminary investigations revealed that Halilu had repeatedly lured and sexually abused the victim, threatening her with harm if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
A medical examination confirmed that the victim is approximately three months pregnant due to the repeated assaults. She is currently receiving medical care and psychological support.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to face charges as investigations continue. Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to stay vigilant about their children's safety.
“Parents must pay close attention to the whereabouts and welfare of their children,” Sanusi emphasized. He also called for public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
This disturbing case highlights the urgent need for increased awareness and protective measures for minors in the community. As the investigation unfolds, the police are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and holding the perpetrator accountable.
