2027: If you don’t win your state for Tinubu, don’t say we’ve won, Wike tells APC govs

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has issued a stern warning to All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and members of the Presidential Campaign Council: they should not claim victory in the 2027 presidential election if they fail to deliver their states for President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, where he was appointed coordinator for the FCT and Rivers State, Wike emphasized that the focus should be solely on ensuring Tinubu's re-election, regardless of individual roles within the campaign.

“If you don’t deliver your states and the president wins, don’t say we’ve won,” Wike declared, stressing that the party's success hinges on the commitment of its members. “It’s not about whether I am chairman, secretary, or a member; what matters is for the president to win.”

Wike further pressed the importance of delivering Lagos, stating, “I told the Chief of Staff to the President, if the president doesn’t win in Lagos, don’t say we’ve won.”

Pledging his support, Wike assured attendees that Rivers and Abuja would cast their votes for Tinubu, saying, “By the grace of God, Rivers and FCT will vote massively for Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

He also acknowledged the presence of Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, asserting that their attendance signified robust backing for Tinubu’s campaign.

Defending the current administration’s record, Wike argued that previous governments had pinpointed Nigeria’s challenges but failed to deliver effective solutions. He maintained that a thriving democracy requires a constructive opposition capable of addressing issues rather than merely criticizing those in power.

Asserting his leadership within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike stated, “As an opposition party member, as the leader of the PDP, there are no two leaders of the PDP. I am the leader.”

He challenged area council officials in the FCT to acknowledge the positive impact of Tinubu’s administration, urging them to speak up if they felt otherwise.

With the 2027 elections fast approaching, Wike’s comments underscore the high stakes and the importance of unity within the APC as they prepare to rally support for Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
