He emphasized the need to focus on governance and Nigeria’s pressing economic responsibilities.
Speaking at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, Tinubu acknowledged the council members' concerns about the campaign's potential to distract him from his duties. “You’ve warned me not to let the rigours of the campaign distract me from governance. I hear you; Nigeria needs my attention now,” he stated.
The President urged the council to take the party’s message to Nigerians across the country while he remained focused on critical governance issues. "You will excuse me from going everywhere with you; we have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait," he remarked, highlighting the urgency of financial obligations.
Tinubu also stressed the importance of attracting long-term investments to Nigeria, stating, “We want those investors to come in, be here to stay, to invest for the future of our children.” He reassured the public that he would still engage directly with Nigerians, even as the council took charge of mobilization efforts.
The inauguration was described by Tinubu as a commitment renewal, not merely a campaign activity. “We have gathered to renew a covenant with the Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party,” he said.
He emphasized that the council’s role would be to effectively communicate the administration’s vision and achievements to voters nationwide. “This council will carry our vision, our records, and our agenda to every Nigerian,” he asserted, expressing confidence in their ability to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
Tinubu also praised APC members for their unity during the party's congresses, recalling predictions of internal crises. “They said there would be implosion. We passed through it. We did not fail. You didn’t let us down,” he declared, celebrating the party's collaborative spirit.
As the APC gears up for the 2027 elections, Tinubu’s focus on governance alongside campaign efforts underscores the balancing act required in Nigerian politics. With pressing economic challenges ahead, his administration aims to maintain momentum while rallying support for the party.
