Tragic Outburst: Guidance Counsellor Murdered Over Innocent Play with Toddler in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended Edebiri Temitope, a 43-year-old man, in connection with the tragic death of his 38-year-old neighbor, Oje Michael Eje, in Mowe, Ogun State.

In a statement released on Friday by the command's spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, it was confirmed that Temitope, who had initially fled the scene, was arrested and has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a confrontation between Eje and Temitope's three-year-old child. Eje was accused of hugging and playing with the child, actions that allegedly infuriated the child's father.

Babaseyi elaborated, stating, “A 38-year-old university graduate, Mike Oje, was reportedly beaten to death by his neighbor in Mowe. He was accused of hugging and playing with the neighbor’s three-year-old child.”

The police spokesperson further explained that Temitope, angered by what he deemed "rough play," resorted to violence. “The father, infuriated by what he described as Mike’s ‘rough play’, grabbed a bamboo stick and repeatedly struck him until he collapsed and died,” Babaseyi noted.

Eje, who held a degree in Guidance and Counselling, was known in the community for his gentle demeanor and dedication to helping others.

Following the assault, Temitope fled with his family but was later tracked down and arrested by the police. “Edebiri Temitope, ‘M’, aged 43 years, who was earlier reported to be at large, has been arrested in connection with the death of Oje Michael Eje, ‘M’,” the command stated.

The suspect has since been taken to the State CID for further investigation, while the community grapples with the shocking loss of a beloved neighbor.

Babaseyi emphasized that the police are committed to a thorough investigation of the incident, ensuring justice for the victim and his family.
