Commissioner of Police Ayodeji Faniyan announced these developments during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Jos on Friday. He highlighted his commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention since taking office two months ago.
Faniyan credited the police's achievements to the collaboration between officers and the community, emphasizing the importance of timely public information. He expressed gratitude to the media for their support in disseminating accurate information.
Among the notable operations, on August 7, officers arrested 24-year-old John Oba Agbanu in Zaramaganda forest, seizing a locally fabricated Beretta pistol along with ammunition and daggers. Shortly after, on August 13, police detained 23-year-old Peter Pius in a Bassa hotel, recovering another locally fabricated pistol.
A significant breakthrough occurred on August 31 when operatives from Bashar Division apprehended Buba Abdulkarim from Wase LGA, seizing an AK-47 rifle loaded with ammunition.
The Commissioner reported other major arms recoveries, including a GPMG and another AK-47, both discovered during encounters with suspected bandits. He also noted that some arms were recovered without any arrests made.
Addressing crimes against individuals, Faniyan disclosed arrests related to rape and defilement cases, stating that all victims had received medical attention. He assured that the suspects would be charged once investigations were completed.
On drug offenses, four suspects were detained on September 1 for possession of cannabis and other illegal substances during a raid in Angwan Rogo, Jos.
Faniyan reiterated the command’s commitment to enhancing intelligence-driven operations and collaboration with other agencies. He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to aid law enforcement efforts.
As the Plateau State Police intensifies its operations, the community's cooperation remains paramount to ensuring safety and security for all residents.
