The operation began following a report from Abdulrahman Aliyu, the Education Secretary of Tsafe LGA. Acting on this information, NSCDC operatives apprehended the prime suspect, 55-year-old Alhaji Haruna Amadu, on September 8. During questioning, Amadu revealed the identities of eight accomplices.
Preliminary investigations showed that from September 5 to 8, the suspects conspired to remove roofing zinc from three classrooms at the school. The arrested individuals include Aliyu Aliyu (40), Isah Umar (40), Hassan Shehu (35), Garba Ibrahim (60), Ibrahim Lawali (55), Abdullahi Usman (35), Abubakar Ibrahim (45), and Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu (40).
All nine suspects confessed to their crimes and even admitted to attempting to bribe local traditional leaders, including the District Head, Sarkin Gabas Aliyu, and Village Head, Magaji Kabiru Salisu. Both leaders rejected the bribe and condemned the vandalism.
The group revealed their intention to sell the stolen zinc to raise funds for agricultural levies. The total estimated damage to the school is approximately ₦4.5 million.
In a separate operation on September 10, NSCDC agents arrested 58-year-old Emmanuel Okonkwo for dealing in hard drugs. Okonkwo, who claimed to have run a chemist for over 20 years, confessed to collaborating with two accomplices who remain at large. Authorities recovered 112 wraps of cannabis from his possession.
The Zamfara NSCDC Commandant, CC Sani Mustapha, has directed that Okonkwo be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation. Meanwhile, the nine suspects involved in the school vandalism will face prosecution in a competent court.
The NSCDC has reiterated its commitment to a "zero tolerance" policy toward criminal activities and economic sabotage, vowing to protect public infrastructure across the state.
