NDLEA Busts Major Drug Trafficking Ring: 44.45kg of Cannabis Seized in Lagos

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted two significant shipments of synthetic cannabis, known as Colorado, weighing a total of 44.45kg, destined for the UK. 

The agency made the seizures at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and at local motor parks, leading to the arrest of seven suspects linked to the trafficking operations. 

In one operation, a UK-bound consignment containing 27 parcels of cannabis was seized, with the suspect, Abideen Jide Salami, apprehended while attempting to collect the shipment. A follow-up investigation led to another arrest, Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri, who was found with an additional 12.25kg of the substance.

Additional seizures included drugs hidden in music speakers, as operatives intercepted shipments intended for Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia. The NDLEA continues to ramp up efforts against drug trafficking, underscoring its commitment to combatting the growing drug crisis in Nigeria. 

The agency also reported arrests across several states, including Delta, Kano, and Ondo, as part of ongoing operations to dismantle drug cartels and raise public awareness on the dangers of drug abuse. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa commended the efforts of his team, urging them to remain vigilant in their fight against drug-related crimes.
