In a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, the police outlined measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process. The movement ban will be enforced from 12:00 am to 5:00 pm on election day.
Only individuals on essential duties, including INEC officials, accredited election observers, medical personnel, and journalists with valid identification, will be permitted to move during this period.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori emphasized that anyone violating this restriction or other electoral guidelines will face arrest and legal prosecution.
Security personnel will be deployed to polling units, collation centers, and identified flashpoints across Dawakin Kudu. Additionally, all security aides and escorts for VIPs and political figures are prohibited from accompanying their principals to polling venues.
No quasi-security outfits or vigilante groups will be allowed to participate in the election security setup or linger near polling units. Carrying arms or dangerous weapons will also be strictly forbidden at election sites.
Vote-buying, vote-selling, and political canvassing within polling unit areas are prohibited, allowing only accredited officials and personnel access to these locations.
The police urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to adhere to the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended) and maintain lawfulness throughout the electoral process.
Furthermore, the Kano Police Command appealed to parents and guardians to prevent their children from engaging in political violence or being used as thugs during the election.
The command reassured residents of Dawakin Kudu and the broader Kano State of its commitment to ensuring a secure environment for the exercise of their civic rights.
