During a meeting with a delegation from the Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly in Abuja, Akpabio emphasized the importance of reform initiatives, including the removal of fuel subsidies and foreign exchange adjustments.
He acknowledged the initial challenges these reforms posed but insisted they were crucial for repositioning Nigeria’s economy.
“The reforms are not just theories; they are decisive actions aimed at dismantling structural bottlenecks,” Akpabio stated, highlighting early positive indicators like improved revenue and increased investor confidence.
He encouraged Northern youths to actively engage in governance, asserting, “You are architects of today, not just leaders of tomorrow.”
Akpabio’s remarks reflect a broader push for policy continuity, arguing that abandoning the current reform program could jeopardize the gains achieved so far.
He stressed the necessity of redirecting government resources into critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
The Senate President also assured the youth that the 10th National Assembly is focused on strengthening transparency and accountability.
In response, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan-Musa, spokesperson for the Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly, praised Akpabio’s efforts in fostering political unity between the North and South.
Dan-Musa committed to mobilizing grassroots support to educate Nigerians about the long-term benefits of the government’s economic policies.
He emphasized that national unity must take precedence over regional interests, asserting, “No regional sentiment can overshadow the sovereignty and peace of Nigeria.”
The assembly identified three key areas for engagement leading up to the 2027 elections: consultations with Northern youth, grassroots education on federal fiscal policies, and a commitment to national cohesion.
