During the inauguration in Osogbo, Adeleke, represented by State Attorney General Oluwole Jimi-Bada (SAN), stressed that the Commission's primary goal is to uncover the truth and hold accountable those responsible for acts of violence, intimidation, and property damage reported before and after the election.
"This Commission is not about witch-hunting," Adeleke clarified. "Elections are the cornerstone of democracy, and citizens must engage in the democratic process without fear of intimidation or violence."
The governor underscored the government’s responsibility to investigate allegations of unlawful conduct and ensure justice in accordance with the law. The Commission will examine the immediate and underlying causes of the incidents, identify those involved, and assess any harm done to individuals and property.
Adeleke reiterated the administration's commitment to justice, accountability, and public order, emphasizing that the inquiry will result in firm recommendations based on credible evidence.
Victims and residents affected by the electoral violence are encouraged to submit memoranda to the Commission, as the governor aims to identify causes and propose solutions to prevent future occurrences.
In his address marking the 35th anniversary of Osun's creation, Adeleke highlighted the importance of addressing public concerns and restoring peace within the community.
The establishment of this Commission reflects a proactive approach to uphold democratic values and reinforce the rule of law in Osun State, ensuring that all political actors, security agencies, and stakeholders are held to account.
The inquiry seeks not only to clarify what transpired but also to foster an environment where citizens can participate freely and peacefully in the electoral process.
