During the 115th quarterly meeting of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals in Nigeria, Otti highlighted the significance of healthcare in driving human development and economic growth.
Represented by Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, Otti announced that healthcare received 15% of the state’s annual budget for 2026. He noted the recruitment of hundreds of healthcare professionals and the rehabilitation of primary healthcare centers through the Project EQIUP initiative.
The proposed Abia Medical City aims to create an integrated healthcare ecosystem that will include specialized medical services, research, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, among others. Otti emphasized the need for partnerships to realize this ambitious vision.
Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, Secretary to the State Government, praised the administration for its progress in healthcare, particularly the cooperation with the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.
Prof. Sa’ad Ahmed, Chairman of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors, expressed appreciation for the collaboration and its positive impact on state health facilities.
Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi, Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, shared updates on the construction of a new twenty-room VIP ward at the facility.
