Speaking at a news conference in Osogbo, Mgbudem emphasized the election as a testament to the people's courage in the face of intimidation and violence.
Mgbudem noted that the election period was marred by harassment, property destruction, and tragic incidents, yet the citizens of Osun demonstrated unwavering resolve to protect their votes and choose their leader freely.
“This victory is dedicated to the peace-loving people of Osun State,” he said, highlighting their commitment to democratic participation.
He extended gratitude to civil society, local and foreign election observers, and security agencies for their roles in ensuring electoral integrity and transparency.
“The election is over. The people of Osun State have won. There is no victor, no vanquished,” he added, calling on all parties to unite for the greater good of the state.
Mgbudem also praised candidates from other political parties who supported Adeleke, viewing their collaboration as a significant step towards strengthening democracy in Nigeria.
He urged all political factions to work together for the prosperity of Osun State.
“The interest of the state is greater than individual ambitions,” he stressed, advocating for a collective effort to enhance the state's development.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed Adeleke's victory with 511,067 votes, defeating Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, who garnered 444,815 votes.
The results, declared by INEC Returning Officer Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, showed a total of 985,079 valid votes cast.
This election has reasserted the citizens' voice in governance, marking a significant chapter in Osun's political landscape.
As Adeleke prepares to assume office, the call for unity and collaboration resonates strongly among the populace.
