Aregbesola Hails Adeleke’s Victory: A Call for Unity and Progress in Osun

In the wake of Governor Ademola Adeleke's re-election in Osun State, former Governor Rauf Aregbesola has extended his congratulations, emphasizing the need for unity and inclusive governance. The August 15 election results, he stated, reflect the will of the people and deserve respect.

Aregbesola shared his sentiments via a statement on X, affirming Adeleke's victory as a clear mandate from the citizens of Osun. 

Now that the people of Osun have spoken through the ballot, their decision must be respected,” he said.

As a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Aregbesola underscored the heightened responsibilities that come with Adeleke's renewed mandate. 

He called on the governor to prioritize the unity and development of Osun, urging him to govern fairly, irrespective of political affiliations.

“The task before the governor is now greater than the contest that has just ended,” Aregbesola urged, stressing the importance of humility and responsibility in governance.

He took a moment to commend Osun voters for their active participation, describing them as politically astute.

 Aregbesola also praised ADC members for their unwavering support for their candidate, Najeem Salaam, amidst significant political pressure.

“To the men and women of the ADC in Osun, thank you for your steadfastness and commitment throughout this journey,” he stated, acknowledging Salaam’s dignified approach during the campaign and his acceptance of the election results.

Despite the ADC's loss, Aregbesola encouraged party members to maintain their commitment to Osun and to hold the government accountable while offering constructive alternatives. 

Democracy thrives when political actors compete vigorously and accept the people's decision with maturity,” he added.

He urged Adeleke to reach out to various political groups, making his next term a period of reconciliation and broader inclusion. 

Aregbesola emphasized that the core values of good governance, accountability, and service should be pursued beyond electoral contests.

“Political journeys are often longer than individual electoral contests,” he remarked, reinforcing the importance of enduring commitment to the state's welfare.

Concluding his message, Aregbesola wished Adeleke “wisdom, good health, and success” in his governance, reminding him that “power is responsibility.”
