Obasanjo Champions Health for Seniors: "Exercise Keeps Us Young!"

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has highlighted the importance of regular exercise for the elderly, urging them to stay active for better health as they age.

Leading a 2.5km walk with around 100 members of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Senior Citizens Club in Abeokuta, Ogun State, he demonstrated his commitment to this cause.

The walk, which took participants from their clubhouse to Iyana Mortuary and back, served as both a fitness initiative and an awareness campaign.

During the event, Obasanjo expressed, “Exercise is vital for aging gracefully. It helps ensure that even in our later years, we can live life fully.”

He pointed out that many members of the club, aged 70 and above, are thriving, with one participant, a 90-year-old, visibly fit.

The former president emphasized that physical activity is crucial for improving the quality of life in old age.

He stated, “We should encourage our seniors to remain active; it’s essential for their well-being.”

Group Captain Ayobamiji Erinfolami (retd.), president of the club, praised Obasanjo for leading by example, while Elder Udo Umoren, a close aide, described the initiative as a much-needed boost for seniors.

Obasanjo's walk not only aimed to motivate older citizens but also promoted community engagement and support among them.

His leadership in this initiative has sparked conversations about the significance of health and fitness in the elderly.

As the event concluded, participants expressed gratitude for the encouragement to prioritize their health through exercise.

Obasanjo’s message was clear: staying active is key to a fulfilling life, regardless of age.

The initiative reflects a growing awareness in society about the need to support healthy aging and combat the challenges faced by the elderly.

Obasanjo’s leadership continues to inspire many, proving that age is just a number when it comes to staying fit and vibrant.
