Kwankwaso: NDC's 2027 Appointments to Prioritize Competence Over Connections

Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Vice-Presidential Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced that if the party secures victory in the 2027 presidential elections, appointments will be grounded in competence rather than political ties.

In a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, Kwankwaso emphasized the need for a government filled with skilled individuals, including technocrats and experienced politicians, to effectively manage the nation’s affairs across various ministries and agencies.

"Appointments will be made based on the needs of the country; we will focus on technocrats and qualified politicians with the requisite expertise," he stated. He underlined that the president and vice-president cannot single-handedly govern the country, which necessitates bringing capable individuals on board.

Kwankwaso, who has a background in civil engineering and public service, argued for the importance of specialized knowledge in key ministries to ensure effective delivery of services. He also noted that technocrats should not be viewed as outsiders in politics, as many possess strong professional credentials.

He pledged that an NDC administration would swiftly constitute its cabinet post-inauguration, reducing delays that can hinder governance. "Elected officials have only four years to fulfill their mandates, and they should hit the ground running," he remarked.

Kwankwaso reiterated that an NDC government would prioritize competence, experience, and capacity when selecting appointees to serve the Nigerian populace. He expressed his comfort in potentially serving as vice-president, viewing public service as a means to contribute to national development rather than just a quest for political power.

Effective delegation, he argued, would be crucial for achieving good governance and enhancing the quality of life for Nigerians. Kwankwaso's vision reflects a commitment to a merit-based approach to leadership, aiming to foster trust and efficacy in public service.

As the NDC gears up for the elections, Kwankwaso’s focus on competence could resonate with voters seeking substantive change in governance.
