Gunfire Erupts as Hoodlums Ambush Governor Adeleke's Convoy in Osogbo

 Chaos erupted on Wednesday as hoodlums engaged in a gun battle with security personnel protecting Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, during his visit to the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji. The incident occurred shortly after Adeleke received his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, traveling in an unregistered Toyota Sienna, had been lurking near the palace before the governor's arrival. Tensions escalated into a heated argument among the hoodlums, which quickly turned violent.

Laide Misture, a nearby shop owner, recounted the harrowing experience. “Moments after the governor entered the palace, we heard gunshots. They were firing from the main gate while the security team responded from within. The shooting lasted almost three minutes before the attackers fled,” she said.

Osun State's Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, confirmed the incident, stating that suspected hoodlums were involved. “There were indeed gunshots as we were exiting the palace. We are still unclear about the reasons for the altercation or the identities of the groups involved,” he noted.

The gunfire raised alarm among residents, who expressed concern over the escalating violence in the area. Local authorities are investigating the incident while the governor's team remains on high alert.

This attack comes amid a tense political atmosphere, with Adeleke recently receiving his certificate and celebrating his electoral victory. The implications of such violence, especially targeting a sitting governor, raise serious concerns about security in the state.
