Fusengbuwa Ruling House Calls for Unity Amid Breakaway Faction on Awujale stool

 The Fusengbuwa Ruling House is embroiled in a contentious dispute as it petitions Governor Dapo Abiodun over the emergence of a breakaway faction led by Adeleke Adeyemi.

 The ruling house insists that this group is illegal and seeks to disrupt the ongoing selection process for the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

In a formal petition dated August 17, 2026, the ruling house urged the governor to ignore the breakaway faction, emphasizing that their actions could lead to division within the family. 

They are also calling for the lifting of a seven-month embargo that has stalled the selection of the new Awujale, asserting that the community deserves its rightful royal leader.

The petition was signed by key members, including Chairman Otunba Abdul Lateef Owoyemi and Deputy Chairman Otunba Oladokun Ajidagba. They argue that Adeyemi's faction, which previously operated under the Otunba Ajidagba Unit, is attempting to undermine the longstanding traditions and lawful processes governing the selection.

Allegations against Adeyemi's group include convening unauthorized meetings and forming a “Fact Finding Committee” with motives perceived as damaging to the ruling house. The petitioners claim this committee’s actions violate a 2014 High Court ruling that restricts interference among different units of the ruling house.

The dissenting faction, represented by Oduneye, countered these claims, asserting their restructuring efforts are legitimate and not a governmental issue. They challenge the ruling house to address allegations of financial misconduct that have surfaced during the selection process.

Tensions have escalated as the ruling house maintains that the nomination process for the Awujale stool was conducted lawfully, while the breakaway group insists on their removal and restructuring based on family consensus.

The conflict has drawn attention from various stakeholders, with the ruling house calling for unity against what they describe as “renegades.” They express confidence that the majority of Ijebu Ode supports their rightful claim as leaders.
