Media mogul and EbonyLife CEO Mo Abudu has made it clear that she expects younger individuals to address her formally, a stance rooted in her traditional upbringing. Speaking with Toke Makinwa on "Toke Moments," Abudu shared her views on respect, emphasizing that casual address by her first name is unacceptable.

Raised by her grandmother in Ondo, Abudu described herself as "very traditional," stating, "You can’t be calling me by my first name anyhow. I won’t take it!" This perspective comes amid ongoing discussions about workplace etiquette, particularly how younger employees should engage with senior executives.

Abudu also addressed perceptions of successful women in business. She pointed out that traits viewed negatively in women, like being called a "shark," would typically be framed positively for men, who would be labeled "astute businesspersons."

At 61, she reflected on relationships, asserting that heartbreak is no longer a concern for her. "Nobody can break my heart," she declared, adding she prefers partners who are her age or older, as mutual respect hinges on shared accomplishments.

Her comments echo a recent incident involving UBA’s Group Chairman Tony Elumelu, who corrected a graduate trainee for casually addressing him by his first name during a ceremony. This highlights the growing conversation around respect and formality in professional settings.

Abudu's stance aims to reinforce the importance of respect in both personal and professional relationships, challenging younger generations to maintain decorum when addressing their elders.
