EFCC Dismisses Over 40 Staff for Corruption Under New Chairman Olukoyede

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has terminated the employment of more than 40 personnel due to corruption and financial malpractice since Ola Olukoyede took over as Chairman. During a briefing in Abuja, Olukoyede emphasized the commission's commitment to integrity, stating that several dismissed officers are currently facing prosecution, with additional case files being prepared.

"In my tenure of nearly three years, I've insisted on accountability," Olukoyede remarked. "We cannot protect our own if they engage in the same corrupt practices we investigate in the public."

He highlighted the commission's new strategy to bolster internal accountability, including renaming the Department of Internal Affairs to the Department of Ethics and Integrity. This change aims to reflect the EFCC's dedication to internal cleansing.

Moreover, Olukoyede announced a new gift policy mandating personnel to declare any substantial gifts, ensuring transparency and accountability. "You must ensure your hands are clean if you're fighting corruption," he asserted.

The EFCC's proactive measures indicate a serious approach to combating corruption from within, reinforcing the message that no one is above the law, not even those tasked with enforcing it.
