He cautioned against using state institutions to favor the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), framing the election as a pivotal test of Nigeria's democratic integrity.
Addressing the ADC National Youth Leadership Summit in Abuja, Atiku criticized the overwhelming security presence, likening the electoral process to a military operation rather than a civil engagement. He emphasized that elections should be conducted in a manner that respects the will of the people, stating, "Ballot papers are not bullets. Voters are not enemy combatants."
Atiku raised concerns over the disproportionate security deployment amid ongoing threats from terrorists and bandits, questioning the rationale behind such measures. He called for the timely arrival of electoral materials, transparent voting processes, and honest counting of results, insisting that INEC and security forces belong to the Nigerian populace, not the APC.
He further urged Nigerians and the international community to closely observe the Osun election and to ensure that every vote counts. In a bold assertion, he declared, "The world is watching Osun. Let the people vote. Let the will of the people prevail."
Atiku also revisited the controversy surrounding President Bola Tinubu's Chicago State University certificate, demanding clarity on discrepancies in the documents submitted to INEC.
He argued that the standards for public office should be as rigorous as those for ordinary employment, insisting on accountability for all candidates.
Encouraging youth participation in politics, Atiku pledged that at least 30% of legislative candidates under his program would be under 40, calling on young Nigerians to transform their frustrations into organized political action rather than mere social media activism
"Anger is not an organization.
A hashtag is not an organization," he reminded the youth of Nigeria.
