APC Demands Police Action Against Abayomi Hunye for Impersonation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, calling for the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of Mr. Abayomi Hunye, a self-proclaimed governorship candidate in Ogun State. The ruling party has disowned Hunye's claims, labeling them as misleading and dangerous.

In a petition dated August 24, the APC characterized Hunye’s self-declaration as a candidate for the 2027 elections as “mischievous.” The party urged the police to intervene to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order in Ogun State.

The petition details Hunye's attempts to present himself as the APC's gubernatorial candidate, asserting that these claims are fraudulent and intended to disrupt public peace. “This claim is false, fraudulent, and a deliberate act of impersonation designed to mislead the public,” the petition states.

The APC clarified that Hunye was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his local ward, a suspension that was ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee. 

The party emphasized that the only recognized candidates for the governorship in Ogun State are Senator Adeola Olamilekan and his running mate, Balogun Abiodun. They reiterated their commitment to upholding electoral integrity.

In the petition, APC requested that the police take immediate action to question Hunye regarding his alleged impersonation and related offenses. They called for his prosecution under the Electoral Act of 2026.

The APC has pledged its full cooperation with the police during any investigation and expressed readiness to provide witness statements as needed. They aim to ensure that Hunye is restrained from further claiming candidacy to maintain order in Ogun State.
