Adebutu Advocates for Youth Investment to Combat Unemployment in Ogun

Ladi Adebutu, the 2027 governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has called for increased investment in vocational training and entrepreneurship as essential strategies to tackle unemployment and stimulate economic growth.

Speaking at the 5th anniversary of the Agbaletu Progressive Movement held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Adebutu emphasized the need for comprehensive support for young Nigerians through practical skills training and affordable financing.

During the event, approximately 100 young individuals received vocational training and educational support. Adebutu stressed that collaboration between the government, individuals, and philanthropic organizations is crucial for empowering the youth.

“Providing affordable capital to young entrepreneurs is vital for helping them start, expand, and sustain their businesses,” he stated. He underscored the importance of creating an environment where viable businesses can thrive, combining access to finance with mentorship and skills development.

Adebutu provided a practical example, asserting that empowering youth to become entrepreneurs by supporting their business ideas is crucial for economic development. He highlighted that investing in young people is key to job creation and reducing unemployment.

Mrs. Adenike Adebutu, the wife of the PDP candidate and Life Matron of the Agbaletu Progressive Movement, also spoke at the event, urging parents to encourage their children to acquire vocational skills alongside formal education. She argued that practical skills are essential for self-reliance in today’s economy.

“Education and vocational skills can go hand in hand,” she mentioned, stressing that practical skills do not diminish the value of formal education but rather enhance opportunities for young people.

The President and Founder of the Agbaletu Progressive Movement, Samson Oguntoyinbo, noted that the organization has successfully assisted over 100 individuals in accessing university education and has supported others with NECO and WAEC programs.

He expressed pride in the initiative, which includes training in various entrepreneurial skills such as tailoring, baking, and hairdressing. Oguntoyinbo emphasized the importance of equipping beneficiaries with practical skills to become productive members of society.

As the anniversary celebration continued, Oguntoyinbo highlighted the organization’s commitment to healthcare interventions, including health outreach programs and medication distribution.

The initiative aims to empower the youth in Ogun State, fostering self-reliance and contributing to broader societal development. Adebutu’s call for investment in youth reflects a growing recognition of the need for practical solutions to address unemployment and economic challenges in Nigeria.
