Oyo State Establishes Judicial Panel to Investigate Oriire Kidnapping Incident

In a decisive move to address the alarming rise in insecurity, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has constituted a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of pupils and teachers from the Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

The announcement was made by Mr. Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, in a statement issued on Thursday in Ibadan. The commission is set to be inaugurated on Friday.

Oyelade emphasized that the panel's primary objective is to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction that took place on May 15, as well as to identify the key factors contributing to the security breach.

“The commission will thoroughly examine the events leading up to the kidnapping, assess the response from relevant authorities, and propose measures aimed at enhancing security and protecting schools and communities throughout the state,” he stated.

This initiative underscores Governor Makinde's commitment to a transparent and independent investigation into the distressing incident, which saw the victims held captive for 56 days before their eventual rescue.

The establishment of the panel comes amid growing concerns over safety in educational institutions, prompting the need for urgent action to prevent future occurrences.
