This clarification comes in response to claims made by Hope Uzodimma, the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, who suggested that all five governors from the region had agreed to support Tinubu’s re-election based on ongoing federal projects in Southeast Nigeria.
Otti remarked, “While every governor is entitled to their personal political views, it is premature to claim a collective decision has been made. The electorate will determine the outcome at the appropriate time.” He underscored that governance is a collaborative process that flows from national to local levels.
The Governor reiterated that Tinubu, like any qualified Nigerian, has the right to contest for office. “I am not against the President running for a second term; he has every right to do so, just as others do,” Otti stated, adding that the final outcome will be dictated by the ballot box.
In addition, Otti voiced his support for certain federal economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies, which he argued encourages corruption and lacks sustainability. “Subsidizing consumption is not a viable economic policy,” he asserted.
Highlighting Abia State’s achievements, Otti announced that the state has risen to third place in the 2026 Phillips Consulting State Performance Index, showcasing improvements in healthcare, transportation, and education. He praised the state’s success in maternal and infant health, with 144 out of 200 primary healthcare centers fully operational.
Furthermore, Otti unveiled plans to enhance public transportation with the acquisition of 20 new electric buses, aimed at expanding mass transit routes. He also mentioned ongoing land reforms, with nearly 5,000 Certificates of Occupancy issued in the last three years, and a focus on digitizing land administration to prevent fraudulent transactions.
The Governor assured residents that work on major road projects continues despite challenges posed by the rainy season and pledged to address rising housing costs through a new Pocket Layout Housing Project in Umuahia.
Otti emphasized the importance of environmental sanitation and security in the state, commending the efforts of local authorities in maintaining peace. He expressed confidence that the reforms initiated by his administration will lead to significant progress in Abia.
The media briefing was attended by key government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, and the Commissioner for Information, among others, underscoring the collaborative efforts in advancing the state's agenda.
