Only God Can Decide Ogun’s Next Governor, Daniel Tells Yayi, Adebutu Supporters

‎Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has said only God knows who will emerge as the state's next governor in 2027, urging political actors and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully.
‎Daniel made the remark on Friday during the burial service of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Sabainah Ibironke Opawole, held at the Ibara Baptist Church in Abeokuta.
‎The event attracted prominent political figures, including Governor Dapo Abiodun, APC governorship candidate Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi), PDP governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu, as well as former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, both represented by their wives.
‎Speaking during his vote of thanks, Daniel noted that chants from supporters of the two leading governorship aspirants should not be interpreted as a sign of political tension, describing such displays as part of democratic engagement in Ogun State.
‎He expressed confidence that the 2027 governorship election would be peaceful, stressing that politics in the state has traditionally been conducted without violence.
‎According to the former governor, while many may speculate about who will succeed Governor Abiodun, the final decision rests with God alone.
‎Daniel also urged Governor Abiodun to invite both Adebutu and Adeola to the dance floor during the event as a symbolic demonstration that political rivalry should not undermine personal relationships.
‎The appeal came after supporters of the PDP and APC candidates exchanged chants endorsing their preferred aspirants while tributes were being delivered at the funeral service.
‎He promptly appealed for calm, reminding attendees that the gathering was meant to honour the deceased rather than serve as a political campaign venue.
‎Earlier, dignitaries at the service paid glowing tributes to the late Mrs. Opawole, describing her as a devoted Christian, accomplished entrepreneur and compassionate matriarch whose values were reflected in the lives of her children.
‎Governor Abiodun, Adebutu and Senator Adeola all praised the deceased for her exemplary life, while the officiating minister urged Christians to recognise God's sovereignty and remain steadfast in faith throughout life's journey.
