Wike Dares Critics, Vows to Quit as FCT Minister if Road Claims Are Proven False

‎Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has challenged critics questioning his administration's road infrastructure record in Abuja's satellite towns, declaring that he will resign if his claims are proven false.

‎Speaking on Friday during the inauguration of the reconstructed Arab/Gbazango Road in Kubwa, Wike said the FCT Administration had made significant progress in expanding road infrastructure sinceresident Bola Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.

‎The minister disclosed that contracts covering 317 kilometres of roads had been awarded across satellite communities, with 221 kilometres already completed and the remaining 96 kilometres currently under construction.

‎He clarified that the figures relate only to projects in satellite towns and do not include road works carried out within the Abuja city centre.
‎
‎Wike also assured residents that the Apo–Karshi Road and the Bwari–Kubwa Road would be completed before the end of the year, describing the projects as part of efforts to improve connectivity and stimulate development in underserved communities.

‎According to him, the ongoing infrastructure projects demonstrate the Federal Government's commitment to extending development beyond the capital city's urban districts.

‎The former Rivers State governor insisted that residents of satellite towns had witnessed tangible improvements, adding that the projects marked a significant departure from previous levels of infrastructure development in the area.

‎Throwing down the gauntlet to his critics, Wike challenged anyone disputing the figures to present contrary evidence on national television within 48 hours.

‎He maintained that if anyone successfully proved that his administration had not awarded 317 kilometres of roads or completed 221 kilometres as stated, he would immediately resign as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
‎
‎The minister attributed the pace of development to President Tinubu's support and the cooperation of the National Assembly, noting that the partnership had accelerated the delivery of critical infrastructure projects across the territory.

‎Wike reaffirmed the administration's commitment to sustaining infrastructure development, pledging continued execution of projects aimed at improving the quality of life for residents throughout the FCT.
