Olufadegin Family Accuses Olubadan of Mogaji Imposition, Warns of Potential Crisis

In a recent statement, the Olufadegin family from Alekuso, located in the Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of Oyo State, has raised serious concerns regarding the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja. They accuse the monarch of attempting to impose Mr. Fatai Omosanjo Amzat as the new Mogaji of their lineage, warning that this could lead to a significant internal conflict.

The family's grievances were articulated by Elder Dauda Adesina, who emphasized that the selection of a Mogaji should be an internal matter for the family. They have formally requested the Olubadan to withdraw Amzat’s name from the proposed list of compound heads slated for installation.

The statement highlighted that the late Mogaji of the family, Alhaji Yekini Adeojo—also known as the Seriki Musulumi of Yorubaland—passed away on April 4, 2025. Following his death, the contest to succeed him became contentious. Initially, Mr. Akeem Adeojo emerged victorious in the first election conducted by the Mogaji Committee. However, the family claims that Amzat contested the results, leading to a second election that resulted in a tie.

The family alleged that rather than facilitating a third election to resolve the deadlock, a family elder, Lateef Busari, attempted to sway the situation in favor of Amzat. "Instead of going for a third ballot, one of our elders sought to influence the process, indicating a preference for Amzat," the statement claimed.

The family expressed dismay upon discovering Amzat’s name on the list prepared for installation by the Olubadan. They had anticipated that the monarch would engage both candidates and family members in a dialogue to settle the dispute amicably. "We were surprised to find that our revered monarch listed Omosanjo without consulting us," the statement continued.

The Olufadegin family underscored that imposing a candidate undermines traditional practices in Ibadanland. They appealed to Oba Ladoja to respect their wishes and allow them to select their own Mogaji. "We urge the monarch to drop Amzat's name from the proposed list to avert potential discord within our family," they stated.

Furthermore, the family suggested that this situation may be connected to longstanding political rivalries, alleging that the Olubadan had historically opposed the late Adeojo. "He had political disagreements with our late Mogaji until his death. This imposition is unwarranted," they asserted.

The family hopes that their appeal will prompt the Olubadan to reconsider his stance, thereby preserving harmony within the lineage and adhering to the traditions that govern their selection process.
