Lagos Sets September 14 Resumption Date, Unveils 2026/2027 School Calendar

The Lagos State Government has approved the harmonised academic calendar for the 2026/2027 school session, fixing Monday, September 14, 2026, as the resumption date for public and private primary and secondary schools across the state.
‎The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, said the calendar was developed following consultations with key education stakeholders coordinated by the Office of Education Quality Assurance.
‎According to the approved schedule, the first term will run from September 14 to December 21, 2026, with a mid-term break scheduled between November 2 and November 6.
‎The second term is expected to commence on January 11, 2027, and end in April, while the third term will begin on May 3 and conclude on July 30, bringing the total number of instructional days for the session to 182.
‎The government said the harmonised calendar is aimed at promoting effective planning, improving academic standards and ensuring uniformity across schools in the state.
‎Schools have also been permitted to choose any two days between September 7 and September 11, 2026, for staff professional development ahead of students' resumption.
‎In addition, all schools are required to observe Open Day during each term, while compliance with public holidays declared by the Federal Government remains mandatory.
‎Authorities further directed schools operating international curricula that require adjustments to the approved schedule to apply for calendar flexibility on or before August 21, 2026.
‎The government noted that observances such as International Literacy Day and the International Day of Education have also been incorporated into the academic calendar.
‎Parents, school administrators and other stakeholders have been advised to familiarise themselves with the approved timetable and ensure full compliance throughout the academic session.
‎The complete academic calendar has been made available through the Office of Education Quality Assurance and other official Lagos State Government digital platforms.
