The opposition party said such a move would ensure transparency, strengthen public confidence and guarantee a credible investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the party maintained that an impartial inquiry was necessary to establish the facts and reassure Nigerians that no public official is above the law.
Habila, a staff member of the David Umahi Federal University of Medical Sciences, died on June 27 while in Ebonyi State, a development that has continued to attract widespread public attention.
The APM argued that the President should demonstrate his administration's commitment to justice and accountability by allowing an independent panel to handle the investigation.
According to the party, a transparent probe would help address concerns raised by members of the public and preserve confidence in government institutions.
The party further stated that several unanswered questions surrounding Habila's death require objective investigation free from any perception of interference.
It therefore urged the Federal Government to ensure that the outcome of the investigation is credible and acceptable to all parties.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Works has publicly supported a forensic autopsy to determine the exact cause of Habila's death, while his legal representatives have also called for a comprehensive post-mortem examination before her remains are released for burial.
The minister's lawyers also clarified that the deceased was accommodated in a facility designated for staff members and associates, not in the minister's personal residence.
However, Habila's family has approached the Ebonyi State High Court to stop the planned autopsy, insisting they do not suspect foul play and requesting the release of her body for burial.
Despite the family's position, the Ebonyi State Police Command has maintained that investigations into the case will continue, while the APM expressed condolences to Habila's family and reiterated its call for justice through an independent and transparent inquiry.
