As part of the operation, authorities deployed a swamp buggy to clear and desilt the canal in a bid to restore the free flow of stormwater and reduce flooding in surrounding communities.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development after inspecting flood-affected areas in Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Areas.
According to him, the ongoing exercise involves widening and deepening the drainage channel to improve its capacity and accelerate the discharge of floodwaters.
He explained that the intervention forms part of the government's broader strategy to strengthen flood management infrastructure during the peak of the rainy season.
The commissioner expressed confidence that the project would help minimise the impact of flooding on residents and improve drainage efficiency in the affected communities.
He also reiterated the government's commitment to maintaining drainage networks across the state through regular monitoring and timely intervention.
Wahab urged residents to support flood control efforts by refraining from dumping refuse into drainage channels, warning that blocked waterways significantly increase the risk of flooding.
He further appealed to communities to cooperate with environmental officials in protecting public drainage infrastructure to ensure a safer and cleaner environment.
The Lagos State Government maintained that it would continue implementing proactive measures aimed at mitigating flood risks and safeguarding lives and property during the rainy season.
