The newly installed, solar-powered surveillance network provides round-the-clock monitoring of activities across the university's main campus, covering pedestrian, vehicular and bicycle movements.
The system is connected to the institution's Central Security Control Room and supported by an upgraded walkie-talkie communication network designed to improve coordination and enable faster responses to security incidents.
The university's Public Relations Officer, Hadu Naphtali Ligari, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the statement, the Chief Security Officer, retired Lieutenant Commander Jafaru Kamara, described the project as a major boost to the university's security architecture.
Kamara commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sani Ahmed Yauta, and the university management for investing in modern surveillance technology, noting that the initiative would strengthen security monitoring, emergency response, coordination and investigations.
Speaking on the project, Prof. Yauta said the installation reflects the institution's commitment to providing a safe and conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.
He revealed that the surveillance system has already assisted security personnel in reviewing incidents and improving operational effectiveness.
The Vice-Chancellor urged members of the university's Security Unit to operate the facility professionally and efficiently while reaffirming the management's determination to protect lives and property within the campus.
He also informed staff, students, visitors and members of the public that the university's main campus is now under continuous 24-hour CCTV surveillance.
According to him, the monitoring system is intended to deter criminal activities, improve accountability and further strengthen security across the institution.
The university said the investment forms part of its broader commitment to deploying modern security infrastructure capable of sustaining a peaceful environment that supports academic excellence, research and community service.
