The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, gave the commendation on Wednesday after monitoring the examination at Redeemers Teap International School, Garki II, and Anglican Girls’ Grammar School, Gudu, both in Abuja.
According to the minister, candidates have embraced the CBT system, with many describing it as more convenient and easier to navigate than the traditional paper-based examination.
She expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination, noting that the centres visited recorded orderly sessions and positive feedback from students.
Ahmad said one of the greatest strengths of the CBT format is the randomisation of questions, making it difficult for candidates to engage in examination malpractice.
She explained that each candidate receives a different set of questions, reducing opportunities for copying or collusion during the examination.
The minister assured that the Federal Government would only implement a full nationwide transition to CBT after putting the required infrastructure in place to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates.
She added that the government is working with the National Assembly, state governments and private partners to provide the facilities needed for a successful nationwide rollout.
Ahmad also disclosed that officials reported no cases of network failure, system malfunction or technical delays at the examination centres visited.
Describing the pilot programme as successful, she said the smooth conduct of the examination demonstrates that technology can significantly improve the credibility of public examinations.
Also speaking, NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, said the council expects to release the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination results by the first week of September, or even earlier, due to the efficiency of the CBT system.
He revealed that 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination nationwide, adding that female candidates slightly outnumbered their male counterparts while confirming that no technical glitches had been recorded since the commencement of the exercise.
The Federal Government says the gradual adoption of computer-based examinations forms part of its broader education reform agenda aimed at strengthening assessment standards, improving transparency and using technology to curb examination malpractice across the country.
