ADC Criticizes Tinubu's Response to Insecurity, Demands Action on Abducted Residents

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu for what it describes as his status as a "professional statement-maker" regarding insecurity in Nigeria. The party is calling for urgent updates on the fate of 176 residents from Woro community in Kwara State, who were kidnapped on February 3, 2026.

In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC underscored that the families of the abducted individuals are still waiting for answers, despite some recent rescues being celebrated by the government. The party emphasized that every life in Nigeria deserves equal urgency and attention, regardless of geographical location.

"While we acknowledge successful rescues, the government must not create the impression that the value of a Nigerian life varies based on where they come from," Abdullahi stated. He linked the ADC’s concerns to a recent peaceful protest by Kaiama residents, who expressed their anguish over the prolonged captivity of their loved ones.

The ADC pointed to the alarming rise in insecurity across the nation, citing recent attacks in Kwara, Zamfara, Benue, Kebbi, and Borno states. Abdullahi remarked, "Communities continue to bury their dead or search for the missing while the president remains focused on making statements."

The party criticized Tinubu's public celebration of the rescue of abductees in Oyo State, asserting that it raises questions about the plight of countless other Nigerians still held captive. "Every successful rescue deserves recognition, but it should not overshadow the cries for help from families of others still in peril," the statement read.

The ADC also highlighted the urgent need for transparency and accountability from the presidency. "What progress has been made in securing the release of the 176 abductees from Kaiama? What is the status of those taken in Zamfara? What efforts are underway for Judge Faruku Hassan Bunza and other victims?" the party queried.

The opposition party expressed concern that repeated assurances from the president regarding improved security have lost their impact due to a lack of tangible results. "Hope cannot survive indefinitely on declarations alone," Abdullahi remarked, emphasizing that such statements without substantial outcomes lead to public disillusionment.

Amidst the escalating security crisis, the ADC urged the president to take decisive action. "Leadership is not measured by how quickly the government celebrates a rescue; it is measured by whether every Nigerian is accounted for and not left behind," the party concluded.

The ADC's call for action comes at a time when insecurity is increasingly seen as a national emergency, affecting communities across the country. As families continue to suffer in silence, the party insists that the government must prioritize the welfare of all citizens.
