When questioned about Tinubu's legacy should he lose, Wike firmly responded, “It would be wrong for me to even answer that kind of question. He will be returned. Nigerians will return him.”
Wike addressed accusations of undermining three All Progressives Congress (APC) governors—Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, and Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State—insisting that it was unfair to claim he was backing rival candidates. “I am not in their party. You can’t tell me my party cannot have candidates,” he emphasized.
He clarified that supporting President Tinubu did not prevent his party from fielding candidates elsewhere. “The mere fact I supported President Tinubu in 2023 does not mean we cannot field candidates at other levels,” Wike explained.
Rejecting claims of any secret deals with the governors, he asked rhetorically, “Did I enter into any arrangement with any of them? I did not promise any governor.” He pointed to his relationship with Uzodimma as evidence of his integrity, inviting the governor to confirm the support he provided for his reelection.
“Ask Governor Hope. If he is a sincere person, he will tell you the role I played in his reelection,” Wike stated, showcasing his commitment to political alliances.
Wike acknowledged the competitive nature of politics, saying, “Every person prays for his opponent to make a mistake,” while denying any involvement in the rivalry between Kwara’s governor and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
As the political landscape heats up ahead of the 2027 elections, Wike’s bold endorsement of Tinubu sets the stage for an intriguing electoral battle, leaving many to wonder how the dynamics will unfold in the coming months.
