Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Umahi addressed speculations of discord within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and emphasized their shared political goals.
“There’s no basis for this talk of a rift. We need Wike as Wike needs us. So, it’s one family,” Umahi stated. He emphasized that any perceived differences have been exaggerated by political opponents aiming to create division.
The minister urged fellow politicians to prioritize national development over petty disagreements, highlighting the importance of collaboration among those with similar objectives.
Wike, who continues to play a significant role within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has aligned himself with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, maintaining his political relevance.
Earlier this year, Wike described his political coalition as a progressive movement, emphasizing a departure from traditional party politics to focus on advancing the interests of Rivers State.
Despite concerns within the APC regarding political alliances that could impact Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, Umahi maintained that his bond with Wike transcends these differences.
The Progressive Governors Forum has stated its opposition to any political arrangements that might undermine Tinubu’s re-election prospects, reflecting ongoing tensions within the ruling party.
Umahi reiterated the need for unity, asserting that both he and Wike share a commitment to national development and should be recognized as allies in this pursuit.
As political dynamics evolve ahead of the 2027 elections, Umahi's comments underscore the importance of collaboration in addressing the nation's challenges.
In a time when political alliances are under scrutiny, Umahi’s stance serves as a call for unity among politicians focused on the greater good.
