A shocking incident has unfolded in Orile-Owu, Osun State, where a 20-year-old farmhand, identified only as Saviour from Benue State, was discovered hanging from a tree.
The grim finding has sent ripples of fear and concern throughout the agrarian community.
Residents reported that Saviour had been missing for several days before his body was found on Thursday morning in the Alagbede Area.
A local, Kareem, who knew the deceased well, described him as an easy-going individual who had come to Orile-Owu seeking work.
“It’s truly heartbreaking. He was planning to return to Benue by the end of this year. We had no idea this would happen,” Kareem said.
“We found him hanging from a tree this morning and immediately alerted the police.”
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered a thorough investigation.
Public Relations Officer Abiodun Ojelabi revealed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiry.
"This is a tragic loss for our community," Ojelabi stated. "Operatives have visited the scene, and we are taking this matter very seriously."
The police are now working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding Saviour's death.
This incident comes on the heels of another tragedy in the area, where a suspected thief reportedly took his own life while in police custody.
As the community grapples with this devastating news, residents are left questioning the safety and wellbeing of their neighbors, sparking discussions about mental health and security in rural areas.
Authorities urge anyone with information related to this incident to come forward, emphasizing the need for community support in these troubling times.
