The Oyo State Government has announced a work-free day for all teachers on Monday, October 5, 2026, in honor of World Teachers Day.

This directive was communicated through a circular issued by Prof. Musibau Babatunde, the Secretary to the State Government, on Sunday.

Governor Seyi Makinde's administration aims to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of teachers, who are regarded as the backbone of the state’s educational system and essential to human capital development.

A statement from Sulaimon Olarenwaju, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, emphasized that the work-free day is designed to allow teachers to engage in various activities commemorating their profession and to foster unity within the educational community.

“The declaration reflects our unwavering commitment to the welfare and professional development of our teachers,” the statement noted.

In addition to Oyo, both Kwara and Ekiti State governments have also declared October 5 as a work-free day for teachers, aligning with the nationwide celebration.

The Oyo State government congratulated teachers on this special occasion, reaffirming its dedication to enhancing teaching and learning through supportive policies and programs.

This initiative underscores the importance of recognizing educators' roles in shaping future generations and improving the quality of education in the state.

As celebrations unfold, the government encourages all teachers to participate actively in the planned events, promoting solidarity and reflection within the teaching community.

By prioritizing the welfare of teachers, Oyo State continues to set a standard for educational excellence and support across Nigeria.
