During a reception at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, LSSC Director-General Mr. Lekan Fatodu welcomed the young athletes, who were selected from various schools across the state. This year marked Nigeria's debut at the championship, held from September 14 to 16, 2026, where they competed against international peers at the prestigious Home of Golf.
Toluwalashe Balogun from Lagoon Schools, Lekki, shone brightly, finishing as runner-up in the Junior Girls category. Tiaraoluwa Ahmadu of St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, also made a mark, securing a top-five finish, while Oluwamayomile Orungbeja from St. Gregory’s College placed among the top ten in the Junior Boys category.
Fatodu emphasized that the Commission's role extends beyond merely celebrating victories. "When our young athletes travel thousands of kilometers to compete and return with accolades, we must consider what comes next," he stated. He stressed the importance of providing these talents with access to coaching, facilities, and the right support to continue their development.
He also praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment to sports development and youth empowerment in Lagos. "We are fortunate to have a Governor who recognizes that sports offer a pathway to confidence, discipline, and economic opportunities for young people," Fatodu noted.
Highlighting recent upgrades to sports facilities and the strengthening of grassroots sports initiatives, Fatodu reaffirmed the state's commitment to nurturing young talent and positioning Lagos as a hub for major sporting events.
The LSSC's focus on youth sports aims to create an environment where young athletes can thrive and achieve their dreams, ensuring a bright future for sports in Lagos.
