I’m not at war with my predecessors – Otti

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has firmly stated that he is not at odds with his predecessors regarding the administration of the state.

His remarks come in response to allegations that he has neglected the ‘Okezuo Abia Flyover’ built by former Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, which has developed potholes and raised concerns among motorists.

In a statement released by his special adviser on media and publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, Otti emphasized that the government is not interested in discrediting past administrations.

Instead, they are focused on addressing the integrity issues surrounding the flyover.

"The anger directed at this administration for not protecting the flyover is misguided," the statement read. "We are not engaged in a petty battle with former leaders; such narratives are fabrications by those with ulterior motives."

Otti noted that the government has already formulated plans to intervene and maintain the flyover, which he described as a significant state investment. He stressed the importance of preserving the legacy of past administrations, stating, “We cannot erase anyone’s legacy.”

The governor also recounted a recent State Executive Council meeting where he corrected a commissioner who mistakenly referred to the structure as the “Osisioma Flyover.” Otti insisted on using its rightful name to honor the former governor's contribution.

Despite the criticisms, Otti maintains that his administration is committed to completing and improving projects that were either abandoned or poorly executed by previous governments. He cited a recent inspection of the flyover by experienced engineers, who identified minor issues that were promptly addressed.

"My government is not here to engage in destructive criticism," he asserted. "We have a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens."

Otti's administration is focusing on fostering a culture of continuity in governance and addressing the concerns of residents regarding infrastructure. He urged critics to stop politicizing the situation and allow the government to fulfill its obligations to the people.

As the discourse continues, Otti remains resolute in his commitment to improving Abia State while respecting the legacies of those who came before him.
