APC Raises Alarm Over Rising Extra-Judicial Killings in Osun State

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed serious concerns regarding the alarming rise in extra-judicial killings across the state. In a statement issued by spokesperson Kola Olabisi, the party lamented that the recent governorship election, which saw Governor Ademola Adeleke take office, has not curbed the violence as initially hoped.

The APC criticized the current state of insecurity, urging the Adeleke administration to take decisive action against these unlawful killings. “Osun has become a killing field, making residents from other states hesitant to visit,” the statement warned.

The party’s concerns were amplified by recent violent incidents, including clashes between suspected cult groups in Osogbo, which resulted in two fatalities. Witnesses reported gunfire at a local lounge where the victims were socializing before being attacked.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous for safety reasons, described the chaotic scene, stating that the assailants were armed and instigated a fight that led to the tragic deaths. “It’s terrifying to live here,” they said.

In response to the violence, Osun Police Command spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed the deaths and reported that the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, has deployed Tactical Teams to pursue the perpetrators.

Olabisi underscored the urgency for law enforcement to enhance security measures, stating that there should be no excuses for the continued violence. “Each extra-judicial killing reflects a failure of the state government and security agencies to fulfill their constitutional duties,” he asserted.

The APC called for greater accountability from the Adeleke administration and a commitment to restoring safety and order in Osun. The party’s message is clear: the people deserve protection from violence and the stigma of being labeled a violent state.

As the situation escalates, stakeholders and residents alike are left hoping for swift action to address the growing insecurity in Osun.
